On July 16, 1965 in Shreveport, LA a Handsome Baby Boy was born to Mr. Sammy Lee Blade and Ms. Mattie Lee Hudson Thomas in whom they named Jeffery Lynn Thomas. Jeffery was also raised by Mr. R.T Johnson and his Aunt Mrs. Mary “Lizzie” Johnson.
Jeffery Lynn or “Jed” as he was affectionally referred to attended both Jones High school and Coldsprings High School and spent some time at Texas Southern University before settling into a career as Correctional Officer with Texas Department of Justice.
Jeffery accepted and confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at the early age and later united with Eastside Church of God in Christ in Point Blank,Texas under the esteemed leadership of Superintendent James Elmore. One thing that can never be questioned… Jeff loved the Lord and loved his family. He would tell everyone he encountered how much he not only loved “his people,” but also loved being in church.
On October 27, 2024 all his pain and suffering tragically came to an end, but between those dates he laughed, loved and spread joy to all he encountered.
Jeffery is preceded in death by his beloved Fathers, Sammie Lee Blade and R. T Johnson and adored Mothers Mattie Lee Hudson Thomas and Mary “Lizzie” Johnson, as well as siblings Louistene “Stene” Dykes, Lerpatsy “ Pockey” Quick (Robert),Mary “Jimmie” Carrington, Evelyn Seals, Willie Glaze, Ruby “Bonnie” Edmonson (Ponder) and Ruby Mayblen.
He leaves to mourn his absence and cherish his memory, a devoted wife of 26 years Stephanie Thomas; sons: Kevin Thomas, Devin Thomas, Jason Thomas; stepson: Min. Donta Stephens; 1 Granddaughter: Eliana Thomas; 5 brothers: Lawrence Thomas, Joesph Harris, Alfred Godbolt, Lloyd Cox (Stephanie), Rickey Thomas; 3 sisters: Sandra Goodman, Tracy Elam (Mack) and Ella Randle; his dearest aunts: Bessie Hudson, Toni Hudson and Eula Burney. He leaves a wealth of loving cousins who were more like siblings and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who he thought of as his own children.
When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears, And hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start bravely with a gallant smile; And for my sake and in my name, Live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways, Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, And I in turn will comfort and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky!
