Deacon Freddie B. Wright Sr.

March 24, 1942 — November 26, 2024

Goodrich, Texas

On March 24, 1942, a son was born to Mr. Smithie Sr. and Mrs. Bernice Bogany-Wright, whom they named Freddie B Wright, in Swartout Texas. Freddie received his education at Dunbar High School, in Livingston Tx, where he graduated. He was reared in the church and received the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life He was ordained as a Deacon at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Isaiah Prophet Hunt and became the chairman of the deacon board for a number of years. He worked faithfully as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He later joined the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Keith Johnson.

On August 30th, 1963, he married the love of his life Dorothy Mae Carter and to this union five children were born. They reared their children in the church and taught them the love of God. He loved his family and would do whatever He could to show that love. He is known for his great faith in God.

Freddie B Wright was an excellent provider to his family. He started his career at the Leggett Lumber Company and was promoted to Asst. Manager at Duke City Lumber Company and He retired at the Batson Mill. He later partnered with his son Richard and joined the Logging business until his health began to decline. He was inducted into the Dunbar Football Hall of Fame this year for the excellence he exemplified on and off the field but due to declining health he was unable to attend the ceremony to receive the reward. The last song heard from him was "By the Grace of God I come a Long Way.” He was known for “Guide me Over thy Great Jehovah” but we choose to believe he knew time was shifting and that it was by God’s grace that kept him all these years.

He was preceded in death by Father and Mother: Mr. Smithie & Bernice Wright Sr.; Wife: Dorothy Mae Wright; Brother: Smithie Wright Jr.; Grandparents: Mr. John & Mrs. Lou Wright; Grandson: Keith C. Johnson Jr.; and Son-In-Law: Pastor Keith C. Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: 3 Sons: Freddie B. Wright Jr. (Kim) of Goodrich, Tx, Richard Wright Sr. also of Goodrich, Tx, and Andrell Wright (Sherneka) of Warner Robbins, Ga; 2 Daughters: Pastor Clara Johnson of Livingston, Tx and Elizabeth Harrell (Pastor Timothy) of Goodrich, Tx; 6 Brothers: Willie Wright Sr. of Goodrich, Tx, Deacon Leon Wright (Rebecca) of Houston, Tx, Rev.
